To utilize the NCI-Frederick VPN and Dial-up system you will need an NIH Active Directory account. The NIH Active Directory account is the same as your NIH e-mail accout or NCI Employee ITAS account. In order to install the VPN client software, simply follow the instructions on the appropriate linked web page below for your operating system. Contained within each page is the necessary software, profiles, and documentation needed in order to connect to the NCI-Frederick VPN. After installing the VPN client, you must also install the profiles for the NCI-Frederick network. These profiles are specific to your operating system and are also located on the linked pages in the table below.

If you are using a VPN Client and it is out of date, you will automatically be directed to this site in order to obtain the latest copy of the VPN Client for your operating system. Failure to update your VPN client software when prompted, may result in loss of your VPN service when future updates are released. Should you encounter a problem with the VPN client, please verify that you are using the latest client from the table below and refer to the FAQs in the above link for help in resolving common issues prior to contacting the help desk for technical support.

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
When connected to the
VPN, treat the system that is making the connection as US
Government property and as if it were physically located on
the NCI-Frederick campus. Therefore, access to sites normally
restricted by NCI-Frederick are also restricted while connected
to the VPN. Likewise, your system will be subject to monitoring
of traffic. Title 18, U.S.C, as well as the acceptable use of Government Computer equipment policies of HHS, NIH, and NCI apply to VPN useage.
Accessing of adult-content, gambling, and other
non-work related site access should be avoided as accessing
such sites are considered a violation of the proper use of Government
equipment laws. Sites that violate copywrite laws are expressly prohibited by this policy and are grounds for legal action, fines, imprisonment and/or termination of employment. Any non-authorized
use of the system under your account makes the acount owner responsible
and liable for any damages and/or disciplinary, legal, financial or other actions that
may result from such misuse and/or abuse.
If you
sell or replace any system containing the VPN software, please
format the hard drive prior to doing so. If the system is
lost or stolen, please contact the LAN office (301-846-5797) immediately to
have your account deactivated. These procedures are for security
reasons and your own protection.
RESTRICTIONS
ON CRYPTOGRAPHIC MATERIALS EXPORT
The Cisco VPN client software is classified as cryptographic material. As such, export restrictions apply. You are NOT permitted to
travel using a laptop, desktop, or any other electronic device on which
you have installed the VPN client to any of the countries
or territories on the list below.This includes, but is not
limited to, e-mailing, transmitting, or otherwise transporting
a copy on any type of media or in any format of either the
VPN client program and/or the VPN client profiles contained
in the links above to said countries and territories:
